The City of South Miami is one of the oldest City in Miami, incorporated as the Town of South Miami, March 3, 1926 but later because of more prestige it became the City of South Miami in June 24, 1927.  The home of Baptist South Miami Hospital, Sunset Shops, dinning al fresco, just south of Coral Gables and enjoys the great location of 25 minutes to every where, to downtown, to the beaches, to MIA international airport, minutes away from the UofM, walking distances to metro rail, buses and a couple of minutes to Dadeland mall.

Now the City of South Miami will be the pioneer in solar construction, making it the first city in Florida to mandate solar panels on new homes. Just last week August 9, 2017, The City Commission approved the ordinance on second reading, in a 4-1 vote.  The new law would require owners of new homes- including single-family homes, townhouses and multi-story residential buildings, to install solar panels.  It also applies to owners who expand their homes by 75% or greater.
